Stories That Travel: Playwriting Between Korea and Europe

How does a playwright rethink storytelling when moving across cultural contexts?

In this talk, award-winning playwright and director Hyukin Michaela Kwon introduces themes from her previous works shaped by Korea’s history, society and culture, and reflects on how her residency in Vienna has influenced her approach to new theatre projects. Through discussions on cultural specificity, theatrical accessibility, and stories that resonate across borders, she shares new theatre projects currently in development and the evolving questions behind them.

Following the talk, audiences are invited to join an open exchange with the artist.

This event takes place as part of Hyukin Michaela Kwon’s Artist-in-Residence stay in Vienna and offers a special opportunity to meet the acclaimed author before the conclusion of her residency.
