Making visible what remains unseen is always a political act. It directs our attention to hidden labor, suppressed emotions, and gestures often regarded as insignificant, asking us to reconsider both what we have seen and what we have overlooked. In this exhibition, “performance” is not limited to an event staged before an audience. Rather, it refers to the ways in which labor, care, training, memory, and emotion embedded in everyday life are enacted through the body. The exhibition explores how such movements shape narratives and renew the relationship between body, time, and space. Here, the body is not merely a tool of expression but a site where experience and memory are inscribed and recalled, and where social orders intersect. Within the gestures and repeated actions we often pass by, personal emotions and memories converge with the structures and sensibilities of the present. Following these subtle traces, the exhibition Still/ Moving: Korean Video Art based on Performances considers how unseen movements come to reflect our lives and society.

Conceived to mark the 25th anniversary of the SONGEUN Art Award, this exhibition brings together video and performance works discovered and supported by SONGEUN, a non-profit art space based in Seoul. It focuses on how these works come alive again through new encounters with audiences across different regions. Within distinct local and cultural contexts, the works generate new readings, while viewers uncover new narratives through their own experiences and sensibilities. By sharing the practices of artists who have grown alongside SONGEUN with international audiences, the exhibition extends key currents in Korean contemporary art into a broader field of cultural exchange. Presented as part of the Touring K-Arts Program, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange, the exhibition travels to the Korean Cultural Center in Italy (April 9–June 5, 2026) and the Korean Cultural Center in Austria (October 2–December 11, 2026), laying the groundwork for Korean artists’ continued presence abroad and future international collaboration.

SONGEUN explores the experimental and public dimensions of contemporary art through exhibitions and programs that engage with diverse currents in contemporary visual art and the urban environment. As part of this ongoing commitment, a video work selected for the public art program of the same title, Still/ Moving (2025), is presented at the exhibition entrance. First shown on SONGEUN’s LED wall, the program explores how art gains a public dimension at the intersection of digital media and urban architecture through the language of the moving image. The spatial quality of the outdoor LED wall, which appears to support the building itself, is here translated into the reception hall, where visitors enter, pass through, and pause. By allowing the moving image to permeate this everyday space of passage and pause, the work carries forward the program’s attempt to redefine the threshold between daily life and art, while proposing the moving image as a fluid temporal device within the spatial context of Austria.
